Abstract

This study examines the prohibition of usury in the Qur'an and Hadith through the perspective of contemporary Islamic economics using a qualitative approach. The prohibition of usury in Islam is based on the principle of economic justice and avoidance of exploitation, as explained in the verses of the Qur'an such as Surah Al-Baqarah (2:275-279). The hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW also strengthen the understanding of the dangers of usury for individuals and society, including its impact on economic inequality. This study uses a literature study method with descriptive analysis, where primary data is taken from the texts of the Qur'an and Hadith, and secondary data is obtained from various relevant Islamic economic literature, journals, and books. In the context of modern Islamic economics, the prohibition of usury is an important foundation for the development of ethical financial instruments, such as the Islamic banking system and profit-sharing financing. This study also explores the relationship between the principle of the prohibition of usury and global financial challenges, such as the economic crisis and injustice in the distribution of wealth, and highlights the role of Islamic economics in creating stability and social justice. With theoretical and analytical approaches, this article contributes to integrating sharia values into contemporary economic solutions.
