Abstract

Islamic banking in Indonesia has now merged through the merger of three banks, namely Bank Syariah Mandiri, BNI Syariah, and BRI Syariah. This merger is expected to have a positive impact on the development of the Islamic economy in Indonesia. This research aims to understand the perceptions of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah religious leaders regarding the merger of the three Islamic banks into Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). To address this issue, the researcher used a qualitative method with interview and documentation techniques. The results of the study showed a generally positive perception. Religious leaders are aware of the merger of the three Islamic banks and support the establishment of Bank Syariah Indonesia. They view this merger as making banking services more accessible to the public, as the bank becomes closer and easier to reach. Moreover, religious leaders believe that this merger will bring progress to Islamic banking and further promote the development of the Islamic banking sector in Indonesia.
